Tours and Activities in Costa Rica

Costa Rica offers many exciting ways to immerse yourself in its natural elements. It is the consummate destination for exploring ecosystems and connecting with a peaceful culture. Whether discovering fascinating species with a friendly Costa Rican guide, zipping across the rainforest canopy, or relaxing in a volcano-heated hot spring, there are a variety of tours and activities to engage travelers of all types.

Adventure Tours

One thing that makes Costa Rica such a wonderful place to visit is that for such a small country it offers an extraordinary range of outdoor adventures. There are many landscapes to discover and many fun ways to explore them. People of all ages can enjoy safe and thrilling adventure activities;
and if one thrill is not enough, there are plenty of others to experience - river rafting, ocean kayaking, cave exploration, horseback riding, rappelling down waterfall canyons, zooming on ATVs, or perhaps flying across the jungle on a zip line. The country is an adventure-seeker’s paradise

Cultural Tours

Costa Rica’s culture is rooted in a peaceful, Catholic, agrarian society, and many of Costa Rica's most interesting cultural experiences are on the coffee farm, visiting the pineapple plantation, or eating a delicious helping of Gallo Pinto at the local soda (Costa Rican restaurant.) The country’s few museums and performing arts are mostly centered in the capital city of San Jose.
Yet, for what Costa Rica may lack in high culture, it makes up for in human culture. As reflected in the popular phrase “pura vida” (pure life,) the easy-going nature of Ticos (Costa Ricans) is a shared cultural value that takes life “poco a poco” (little by little.) Friendly Tico guides lead many of the tours below with stories about the history and culture of their country

Educational Tours

In Costa Rica, the association between vacation and learning comes naturally through a wide variety of activities that can teach you interesting facts, expand your perspectives, and bring you into encounters with unique people, places, and environments. On a guided tour of the cloud forest, you can discover fascinating plants and insects, or search
out rare birds. You might listen to stories about the history of Costa Rica, or learn how your morning coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted. For longer stays, you might consider volunteering on an organic farm, or taking a Spanish language course. These experiences are ones that will stick with you long after your vacation has come to an end

Leisure Tours

Travel can be exhausting, so while you’re planning your vacation, remember that there are plenty of leisure activities to help pass the afternoon or relax the body and mind. Perhaps a sunset cruise or a round of golf would be of interest, especially if you are near the beach. Otherwise, there are
great ways to enjoy Costa Rica’s natural settings on aerial trams and wetland cruises. On the relaxation side, many hotels offer creative and traditional spa treatments, while other body-healing activities include rubbing your skin with volcanic mud, or soaking in a volcano-heated hot spring

Marine Tours

With the Pacific on the west and the Caribbean to the east, the country of Costa Rica, which means “rich coast,” has more than 800 miles of coastline and hundreds of beaches. Marine activities are abundant in Costa Rica's beach destinations, and they include snorkeling, sport fishing, kayaking,
scuba, catamaran tours, and marine mammal observation. In addition to enjoying the sun and waves on many of these marine tours, you may also have the opportunity to spot colorful fish, sea turtles, manta rays, dolphins, and other abundant ocean life in Cost Rica’s warm tropical waters

Nature Tours

A visit to Costa Rica is hardly complete without a walk through its dense forests, where giant trees are home to hundreds of epiphyte plants, the sounds of diverse bird species can be heard in the air, and slow-moving sloth lounge high in the upper canopy. It is Costa Rica’s abundant nature and the ability for visitors to directly experience its natural environment that makes Costa Rica such a special
place to explore and much more than a typical vacation destination. Nearly every activity in Costa Rica incorporates a nature element, but walking through the forest with a naturalist guide, meandering along suspension bridges through the canopy, or cruising around shallow seas in search of whales and dolphins, are just a few examples of the many activities with a specific focus on nature
