Costa Rican Sea Mammals
More than twenty species of dolphins and whales might find their way through Costa Rican waters, and nearly ten are reliably in the area at different times of the year. Large marine mammals of the order Cetacea are usually migratory. However, the coasts of equatorial lands pose an attractive destination or detour for whales and dolphins. Shallow reef areas, such as those found on the Caribbean coast of this country, provide valuable sighting areas for marine wildlife—both the creatures living in the reef and those such as dolphins visiting the reefs regularly to feed are fascinating and impressive sights.
