Montezuma Costa Rica

A favorite for youths, surfers, and alternative types, this bohemian town is an ideal laidback beach town. Situated on the southeastern cusp of the Nicoya Peninsula, Montezuma is immersed in natural beauty that ranges from mangroves and estuaries to dense inland tropical forest.

Generalizations aside, Montezuma is a favorite for jovial spirits looking to take part in the ongoing and very relaxed party. Night life is exceptional, with a host of bars and clubs available to dance the night away, if one is so inclined. The real partying starts after sunset when visitors and locals become rejuvenated and the town’s usual relaxed vibe is forgotten for the more upbeat sort of fiesta. Also notable are Montezuma’s restaurants, known for their excellent cuisine—Mediterranean dishes are a hallmark. Vegetarians too will have an easy go here.

While accommodations can be found on the cheap for those on a budget, Montezuma is full of upscale Resorts that cater to travelers seeking luxury and comfort.

At Montezuma’s doorstep is Playa Grande (Grande Beach) where visitors can relax on the beach and take in the beautiful surroundings. Surfing is usually good, however, the rip tide can be quite strong here, so be cautious.

Just outside of town, there is a gorgeous 80 foot cascading waterfall where visitors can swim. There are also several places with warm natural springs nearby. Along the beach, tide pools form around the rocky outcroppings up and down the coast.
