Airport Check in & Locations

Nature Air has it's hub in Tobias Bolanos International Airport of San Jose located in Pavas, a neighborhood located about 5 miles west of downtown San Jose and about 10 miles from the international airport.

Tobias Bolanos Airport has a number of taxis and shuttle buses waiting curbside that can take passengers to anywhere they would like to go.

Nature Air also offers transfers and pick ups throughout the country, please call our reservations department if you would like us to arrange for a transfer.

Please be aware that check in for international flights is at least one hour before the time of departure. And for domestic flights we are asking for people to check in 45 minutes before their flights. Any passenger not checked in at least 15 minutes before their flight will not be boarded.

There are a number of allowances and restrictions on baggage that should be understood at the time of booking.

Luggage Allowances

Nature Air permits a maximum of 30 lbs. per person for checked in baggage and a small handbag for the cabin, aircrafts do not have any overhead baggage compartments. Any baggage over 30 lbs. will be charged (they are still not guaranteed space on the aircraft) at a rate of 1.00 usd per pound. For passengers exceeding their baggage allowance, please allow extra time at the airport to pay the excess. Our check in facilities will close 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight. Passengers who fail to complete check in procedures by this time will not be able to travel.

As a service to those traveling NatureAir, we do offer our passengers free secured luggage storage for up to 3 weeks. Sporting equipment, such as surfboards, are subject to space and are charged at an extra fee of $15 per flight.

All wheelchairs, sticks, crutches, walking frames and any other mobility aids or medical equipment are carried free of charge and not as part of your normal baggage allowance. A wheelchair is available at Pavas Airport but not in the outside destinations.

Electric wheelchairs are not permitted at this time due to local Civil Aviation Regulations.

The following items are restricted from being carried in your hand baggage

  • Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)
  • Catapults
  • Household cutlery
  • Knives with blades (of any length)
  • Paper knives
  • Razor blades
  • Tradesmen's tools
  • Darts
  • Scissors
  • Knitting needles
  • Sporting bats
  • Billiard, snooker, pool cues
  • Hypodermic syringes

If you have a medical reason that means you need to inject during the flight you are permitted to carry syringes in the cabin. But you might be asked to produce medical evidence such as a doctor's letter when you check in or at security screening. The letter should be kept with you at all times.

Other dangerous articles that cannot be carried

For safety reasons, dangerous articles such as those listed below (list includes but is not limited to) must not be carried in your hand or checked baggage:

  • Cigarette lighters/matches (not permitted in hold baggage to any destination)
  • Compressed gases- deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders
  • Corrosives such as acids, alkalis, mercury and wet cell batteries
  • Explosives - Fireworks, flares, sparklers or other explosives
  • Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter fuel, paints, thinner and firelighters
  • Radioactive materials
  • Briefcases and attached cases with installed alarm devices
  • Oxidizing material such as bleaching powder, peroxides
  • Weapons such as disabling sprays e.g. tear gas, mace, pepper spray
  • Firearms and a limited quantity of ammunition may be carried subject to proper packaging but you must contact us in advance
  • Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed killers and live virus materials
  • Other dangerous articles such as magnetized material, offensive or irritating materials

Many of these listed articles can be carried as air Air Cargo, provided they are packed in accordance with Air Cargo regulations

Oversized Luggage

Surf Boards
  1. We do not accept surf boards under Nature Air responsibility. Nature Air will do its best effort to send it in flight or any other available Nature Air flight.
  2. Nature Air cannot transport surf boards out of airports locations and only will provide air transport to Nature Air destinations.
  3. Surf boards bigger than 6.8 are rejected from transportation due to space limitations.
  4. Confirmation only on day of departure and at gate and no pre reservations are accepted.

Longboards and Kayaks are not accepted at all, do to space restriction.

Bikes
  1. We do not accept bikes if not in proper protective bag, all bikes are subject to space and weight availability.
  2. Wheels must be de-inflated for transportation.
  3. Only one bike per flight and per bag.
  4. Confirmation only on day of departure and no pre reservations are accepted.

Travelling With Children

NatureAir permits unaccompanied minors (UM) to fly without company under the following regulations:

UM ages 6 years or more are allowed to fly alone; parents or legal guardian must provide contact, address and phone of person to receive the child at destination.

UM ages 2 to 5 years and 11 months may fly under adult supervision only. Must have legal documentation such as a passport or school ID.

UM from infancy to 23 months may only fly with their parents.

Flying internationally under 18 years old, parents must provide clearance from immigration and a copy to the airline. Parents must provide airline with full name, 2 telephone numbers and address of person to receive the child.

Mothers flying alone with twins or 2 infants must purchase one adult ticket for the child and bring a car seat for the child to sit in.

We love pets! And we are happy to have them with us on your next journey.

For dogs or pets less than 15 pounds in a special bag or container, can be carried with the passenger in the cabin for $15 USD.

For dogs more than 15 pounds up to 40 pounds - they must be in a secured and locked container and will be transported in the luggage compartment, the charge is $25.

More than 40 pounds the charge is $50 USD and the dog must be in a special locked container in the luggage compartment.
