Turtle Nesting Night Tour

A visit to the Marino Baulas National Park helps support the community efforts to finance continued efforts to protect the area from development that can damage this fragile ecosystem.   Leatherbacks face a wide array of challenges both out at sea and at there nesting sites where they have been visiting for hundreds of years.

As light pollution continues to accompany beachfront development worldwide Turtles are discouraged from coming ashore to lay there eggs.  Playa Grande is a favorite for surfers during the daytime hours but at night it is not permitted to go out to the beach unless accompanied by a guide.  All of the nearby hotels have shaded lights which keeps the beach very dark and still attracts nesting turtles.  Although numbers seem to be on the decline the community is committed to keep the ecosystem in a pristine state in hopes that the population will recover.

On this unforgettable tour and educational experience you will be accompanied with a guide to observe the nesting and egg laying process.  You will not be permitted to take photos because it is very disruptive to the nesting turtle.  In some cases it is necessary to wait for many hours until the park rangers find a nesting turtle.  In some cases there are no turtles.
