Alajuela is located 11 miles (17 km) northwest of San José. The Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) is also here, which makes this is a convenient location for travelers who will be flying into or out of Costa Rica. The city itself is much more tranquil than San José. A number of attractions are close by, including a zoo and butterfly farm. Even better, the Poás Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park are a short drive away, offering travelers hiking trails and outdoor excursions.
Villa San Ignacio is nestled at the foot of mountains on a 22-acre (9-ha) piece of property. The property is planted with a variety of fruit trees that attract brilliant tropical birds, including parrots, tanagers, hummingbirds, and more. The hotel was recently renovated and retains a rustic charm alongside modern amenities. The hotel’s décor is attractive but simple, with custom-built furniture and large windows.
The 12 rooms are clean and pleasant. With light colors and good lighting, they feel bright and breezy. All rooms have air conditioning and a ceiling fan, so you’ll remain cool and comfortable during the warmer months. Guests will appreciate the private bathroom and hot water shower, as well as the Wi-Fi access that is offered throughout the hotel. All rooms also have a safety deposit box—store your passport, electronics, and extra money in here when you’re out exploring Alajuela.
The hotel’s Pandora restaurant is airy and cheerful and adjoins a well-stocked bar. Pull up a stool and have a pre-dinner drink at happy hour or a cold beer in the afternoon. The restaurant takes a contemporary approach to traditional Costa Rican cuisine—guests can enjoy fettuccine Alfredo, Aztec soup, and surf n’ turf. A complimentary breakfast is served in the restaurant from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Villa San Ignacio has a swimming pool for guest to enjoy. The pool is large, clean, and refreshing. It’s a great place to cool off or sunbathe.
We thought this was a lovely hotel, and a great place to stay at the end or beginning of the holiday - only about 20 minutes away from the airport. The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff were super-friendly and the food and drink was delicious and also very competitively priced. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
This was the perfect little place away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose. Excellent place to stay! The service by the staff was excellent and everyone was very helpful. The room was exactly what we need and the restaurant was delicious with the best mojito I've every had!
