Land Conservation
Hacienda Pozo Azul protects 370 acres of land, representing 50% of the hotel’s property. On this land the hotel offers hiking trails and a canopy tour for their guests.The hotel is also reforesting areas that were used for cattle ranching.
Recycling Program
Hacienda Pozo Azul’s recycling program includes plastic, glass, aluminum, and compost. Collection bins are located throughout the hotel’s property, and guests are encouraged to put the materials in the corresponding bins. Hacienda Pozo Azul also works with the local school children to teach them the importance of recycling.

Community Programs / Charity
Hacienda Pozo Azul makes annual financial contributions to the local primary schools and high schools as well as to the community development association and local church. As an extension of their recycling education with local schools, Hacienda Pozo Azul also encourages the children to participate in their Sarapiqui River cleaning program to keep their local section of the river as clean as possible. The hotel also makes charity donations to groups in need. Past donations have included adventure packages, dinners at the restaurant, and construction materials. Hacienda Pozo Azul’s staff participates in community development works such as fixing roads, bridges, or infrastructure in the community.
Additional Sustainability Steps
Hacienda Pozo Azul is reforesting areas that were used for cattle ranching. The idea of the reforestation program is to bring in tree species that would serve as hosts for animals.
