Land Conservation
Hotel Villa Blanca sits on 75 acres of property. About 20% of the hotel’s land is gardens and buildings; 80% is forest (40% primary forest and 40% secondary forest). Additionally, the hotel supports the surrounding Los Angles Cloud Forest Reserve.
Recycling Program
Hotel Villa Blanca’s recycling program collects paper, glass, plastic, and aluminum. Fruit and vegetable waste are recycled for compost to fertilize hotel gardens. Meat, fish and poultry waste are collected daily for farm animals, helping to reduce demands on waste disposal facilities.
Waste/ Toxicity Reduction
Only durable and reusable drinking cups are provided
Shampoos, conditioners, and lotions are placed in re-usable containers and refilled
The hotel uses biodegradable cleaning products and has avoided the use of chlorine and other chemical cleaners whenever possible; it works with companies such as Proquimia, Florex, Eco Lab. Etc.

Community Programs/Charity
Hotel Villa Blanca has actively worked with the ICE and MINAE (Ministry of Natural Resources) to develop environmental education programs within the community, such as Green Ants Project (Hormigas Verdes) in San Ramon.
Additional Sustainability Steps
Villa Blanca produces its own compost and organic pesticides to enhance a plant-landscaping program that focuses on restoring native species. It also operates its own organic vegetable and medicinal gardens. Many of the hotel furnishings were made in Costa Rica. The wood came from farm-grown trees (such as Melina) or government certified species.
