Room keys turn on and off the room’s electricity
All hotel's light bulbs are energy-efficient (CFL)
All refrigerators have been replaced with new ones and cold rooms are turned off for 15 minutes every hour
Hotel lights are turned off at 11:00 pm
Water Conservation
Information about reuse of linens and towels is placed in each of the rooms
Low-flow toilets in all bathrooms (max of 1.6 gallons/flush)
Low-flow sink faucets (max. of 2.75 gpm) and showerheads (max. of 2.75 gpm)
All tables are set without table clothes
The water pipeline has a special system that prevents water running when it is not in use
Land Conservation
Almonds and Corals is located in a 14 acres property, and it offers a canopy tour and hiking trails on site. The property is protected for recovery of the rainforest.
Recycling Program
Almonds and Corals has a complete recycling program that recycles paper, aluminum, plastic, glass, tetra brik packaging, and compost. The collection bins are located throughout the hotel property, and in the rooms and kitchen. In addition to recycling waste materials from the hotel, in 1995 Almendros and Corales installed a collection center and a collection truck in surrounding towns such as Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Cahuita and Bribri.
Waste Reduction and Toxicity
Almonds and Corals has an anaerobic system to treat wastewater
Only durable and reusable cups are provided
Shampoos, conditioners and lotion are placed in reusable containers and are refilled
The hotel uses 100% biodegradable soaps (laundry detergent, dishwasher, and hand/body soap)
All cleaning products used are biodegradable
No swimming pool
Community Programs / Charity
Almonds and Corals Hotel makes regular financial donations to the school of Manzanillo, and it also makes charitable donations to the Red Cross, La Lia school, and the Catholic Church of Puerto Viejo.
