Black Turtle Lodge
Black Turtle Lodge is located on the Osa Peninsula, three miles east of Puerto Jimenez. The Osa Peninsula is situated along Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast, and is widely considered to be the country's top eco-tourism destination. A wide range of activities can be enjoyed here, ranging from waterfall repelling to scuba diving to sport fishing.
The Black Turtle Lodge, located along the western side of Golfo Dulce, is a beach hotel with rustic charm, great food and a relaxing atmosphere. The grounds at the lodge are well-maintained but not overly manicured, allowing the powerful natural beauty of the jungle to speak for itself. A deserted black-sand beach with clean, calm water is a quick five-minute walk from the lodge.
The lodge is relatively small, with accommodations that consist of four woodsy casitas and two tree houses. Both the casitas and tree houses are simply decorated with bamboo accents and fresh, tropical flowers. The tree houses are built on 15 ft. wooden stilts, and sit enmeshed the thick natural foliage that surrounds the hotel. Each tree house has two bedrooms, a private veranda, and a private hot water bathroom. The casitas are built on the ground level, and come equipped with mosquito netting in lieu of walls. Each casita can sleep two people, and all come with a skylight and fan to keep the rooms breezy and fresh. The casitas are 100 ft. from the outdoor bamboo bathhouse, which has shared hot water bathrooms.
Breakfast and dinner is included. The owner is a trained chef, and meals are served family-style on the communal porch. Breakfast generally consists of fresh fruit, homemade bagels and yucca bread, while dinners tend to fuse international fare with local ingredients. The kitchen happily accommodates food allergies and special requests.
There is a yoga studio along a large, screened-in mahogany deck - an area which can double as a ping-pong parlor or be rented for group retreats or special functions.
Black Turtle Lodge is well-equipped to help facilitate excursions around the Osa Peninsula, and has tours available for guests of all ages and abilities. Some of the available tours include trips to Corcovado National Park, waterfall rappelling, sport fishing, horseback riding, dolphin and whale watching, surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, and mountain biking.
