Cabinas Los Cocos is settled upon Playa Zancudo, a remote black-sand beach along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. This cozy hotel lies amidst an unpopulated shoreline backed by coconut palms and almond trees. This area of the country sees far fewer tourists, though the scenery is beautiful and the activities are bountiful.
Playa Zancudo is a mellow beachside community that lies 6 miles by boat from Golfito, and 8 miles by boat from Puerto Jimenez. Most visitors come via water, although it can be accessed (albeit a longer trip) by car. Playa Zancudo is drenched in a laid-back atmosphere, making it tempting to lounge along the quiet, calm beach all day long. The ocean here is warm and perfect for swimming, although in some areas the waves pick up enough to make boogie-boarding and surfing enjoyable. Many visitors choose to head out in a kayak and explore the ocean or the mangrove waterway, or else take a tour up the Río Coto, which presents some wonderful bird watching. What's more, the sport fishing off this coast is spectacular, giving visitors the chance to hook marlin, sailfish, snapper and more.
Cabinas Los Cocos looks out on the calm, crystalline Pacific coast waters from a private and gorgeously landscaped garden. The grounds at Cabinas Los Cocos are overflowing with coconut palms, almond trees and colorful flowers, and are literally steps away from Playa Zancudo and the warm Pacific Ocean. Amidst this verdant environment, the guest cabins allow visitors the privacy and seclusion they demand while vacationing, as well as the easy access to the natural gems of the area.
These beachfront cabins are cozy, and include kitchens, wooden decks, and private bathrooms with hot water. The decks are adorned with hammocks, sitting chairs, and small tables, creating the perfect place to watch a fiery sunset or simply lounge about with a book. Each cabin is screened, with mosquito nets over the windows and beds, and contains fans that keep the air circulating and cool throughout the day.
The two Banana Cabins are quaintly restored houses from the bygone days of the United Fruit Company, reconstructed successfully to exude the ambiance of the past. These cabins are spacious, sleeping three people in one double bed and one single bed, and have tile floors and hand-painted furniture. The Rancho Cabins have palmed frond roofs and hardwood floors, and can sleep either two or four people.
Although each cabin comes with a functioning kitchen, there are several good restaurants within walking distance if guests don't feel like cooking for themselves. Cabinas Los Cocos can also help guests arrange kayaking, jungle, and sport fishing tours.
