Playa Grande is an hour drive from the international airport in Liberia.  Its entire shoreline, which stretches for nearly 3 miles, is protected within the 445-hectare Marino Las Baulas National Park, and to the south, where the beach reaches the Matapalo River, the Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge encompasses a river mangrove estuary. With this abundance of protected beauty, activities in the Playa Grande area include adventures in nature, such as snorkeling, fishing, biking, nature hikes, and canopy tours.

At the Una Ola Surf Resort many guests participate in an all-inclusive surfing vacation package. The beginner lessons at the Una Ola start each day with dynamic stretching and warm up, and they continue with hands-on sessions that teach practical surf skills. The lessons cover safety, etiquette, paddling, entering and exiting the surf zone, how to choose waves, how to catch waves, wave dynamics, and how to stand up and get going.  For intermediate surfers, the lessons focus on rapid improvement and catching more waves. All the instructors are qualified and certified surfing instructors and lifeguards. Their goal is help you surf, be safe, and have fun.

Tours for experienced surfers will help you find the best waves in one of Costa RicaÂ’s hottest surfing destinations. With their expertise and knowledge of the area, the guides will take you to the waves.  They can also help you with any questions you may have about better performance and improving your skills.

At the Una Ola Resort there are a total of eight rooms in a laid back, clean, comfortable, and safe environment. It is the hope of Una OlaÂ’s friendly staff that you will have a memorable and fun experience in true “Pura Vida” form. The poolside trek deck is the social center for basking in the sun or sipping a delicious drink. However, for those seeking to pass their downtime away without the sun, Una Ola offers an air-conditioned entertainment lounge where guests can check their email or try their skills on Nintendo Wii.  Guests can even watch newly released movies in high definition, with the Apple TV media system and Yamaha surround sound.

The Una Ola has a private chef that prepares meals for resort guests, and for those who would like to prepare their own tasty treats, there is a community outdoor grill. The dinning area outside sits up to 20 people, and it encourages regular dinner parties with great conversation.

If guests at the Una Ola choose the 7 day surfing package, the package includes ground transportation to and from Liberia (LIR) Airport, accommodations, daily breakfast, surf lessons, surfboards, bikes and guided tours. In addition to the surf school, the Una Ola is a great place to hold private functions, family reunions, and corporate retreats.
