Water heaters are instantaneous
Many of the air conditioners and refrigerators are energy-efficient models
Outdoor lighting is very low- watt fluorescent; guests are encouraged to carry flashlights

Water Conservation
Grey water goes to the sprinkler systems
Guest linens are not changed every day
Low-flow toilets in all bathrooms (max of 1.6 gallons/flush)
Low-flow sinks (max flow 2.75 gpm) and showerheads (max flow 2.75 gpm)
All dinning tables are set without table clothes
Rainwater gutters go to a holding tank system
Surface drain fields from the multi chamber septic system nourish the garden and trees; water from the Jacuzzi and pool is filtered and recycled

Recycling Program
Glass, plastic, aluminum, and organic material is collected in the kitchen and bar

Waste/ Toxicity Reduction
100% biodegradable soap (laundry detergent, dish soap, and hand/body soap)

Certification in Sustainable Tourism, Level 3

Community Programs/Charity
Hotel Las Tortugas makes contributions to community projects, the national park, and the local police and school. Staff of the hotel are sent to help the park service and attend community meetings
