With a gorgeous white sand beach melting into a rolling blue ocean, the scenery of Playa Flamingo couldn't get any better. However, foreigners and wealthy ticos are beginning to realize Playa Flamingo's commercial potential and are developing the beachfront at a rapid rate. The beach community has no discernible center, and is more of a mixture of villas and resorts that extend eastward than anything else. There are a few excellent restaurants around, but if visitors are craving a nightlife, they should head to the nearby town of Brasalito, or farther beyond.  The beach lends itself toward types of sand and sea activities, and is perfect for swimming, lounging, snorkeling, and sport fishing. Not far south is the Marino Las Baulas National Park, encompassing roughly 450 hectares of coastline and mangroves. The park is one of the world's most significant nesting sites for the endangered Leatherback Turtle, which come ashore between the months of November and April to lay their eggs. There is an informative turtle museum at the park, as well as night time tours which are offered to visitors interested in observing the egg-laying process.

Hotel Estela de Fuego is located on a hill above Playa Flamingo in a spot which affords dramatic views of Potrero's Bay and the Flamingo Marina. The panorama offered from the hotel is truly unmatched, as are the ocean breezes and sunsets that grace the hotel daily. There is a small path leading to the beach, and a garden replete with fruit trees and flourishing plants, adding tropical scents and sites to Estela de Fuego's tranquil grounds. The hotel accommodations consist of ocean view mini-suites, which are extremely clean and comfortable, and include a private bathroom (with hot water), air-conditioning, telephone, and cable TV. At such a close distance to the sea, guests can relax in their rooms while listening to the waves crash and the birds sing.

A tasty joint capable of satisfying any culinary craving that may arise, the hotel's international kitchen will have guests' mouths watering and stomachs rumbling. The adjoining bar can easily take care of libations and is a pleasant spot to relax with a drink or a new friend. However, if after a few rounds some excitement is in order, Estela de Fuego runs its own casino where guests can try their luck on a variety of games and machines. The hotel also has a swimming pool that is cold and clear, and aside from the beach, is the perfect spot for beating the afternoon heat. Estela de Fuego's staff is pleasant and personable, and will gladly assist guests with planning activities or tours.
