Recycling Program
Ocotal Beach Resort started a recycling program for the hotel and for the Ocotal Beach area. The recycling program includes paper, aluminum, glass and plastic. Garden fertilizer is produced from organic waste. Collection bins are located in the kitchen and guest rooms.
Waste / Toxicity Reduction
Only durable and reusable drinking cups are provided
Shampoos, conditioners, and lotions are placed in re-usable containers and refilled
100% biodegradable soap (laundry detergent, dish soap, and hand/body soap)
Biodegradable cleaning products
No individually wrapped containers for items such as butter, jelly, sugar, and others
No styrofoam

Community Programs / Charity
In addition to starting up the area's recycling program. Ocotal Beach Resort contributes to community activities and participates in beach cleanup campaigns with children from the local school.

Ocotal Beach Resort offers numerous ways for guests to be involved in their sustainability efforts, and it carries information on local natural areas to visit. The hotel is involved in beach cleaning efforts and keeping the area's Bandera Azul de Playas (Blue Flag Beach) award. The hotel's on-site dive shop received the 2006 Environmental Excellence Award from Project AWARE for their numerous efforts towards aquatic conservation.
