Your journey will begin with a one and a half hour mini-van ride from your hotel in Monteverde to Rio Chiquito. Upon arrival, you will be met by your horses and begin the two and a half hour horseback portion of your trip. You will journey through lush rainforest, tropical jungle and farmlands, leading you to the Arenal Lake for surreal views of the towering Arenal Volcano. Along the way you may spot some wildlife, so stay alert! This portion of the trip will take you to the lakeside town of Castillo.

This trip is suitable for inexperienced riders and can usually be navigated safely, even in rainy season. Your horseback ride includes a 30 minute picnic lunch stop.

In Castillo you will be reunited with your luggage and greeted by a comfortable boat, ready to get you started on the final leg of your trip. The short lake cruise offers great views of the volcano and the forested mountain range spanning the horizon. There is also a chance to see a variety of wetland birds. Once you reach the opposite lake shore, you will be taken by van directly to your hotel in La Fortuna.

Riders are advised to wear long pants, a sweater or jacket, hiking boots or sneakers and to bring sun-screen and insect repellent.

All boats and mini-vans are comfortable, safe and fully insured. The drivers, boat captains and tour guides carry cell phones and can contact the main office at any point.
