Renewable Energy
A biodigester produces biogas that is used for cooking. In the near future, the gas will also be used for heating guest room water. The biogas meets approximately 20% of the hotel's energy needs.

Low-flow toilets in all bathrooms (max of 1.6 gallons/flush)
Low-flow showerheads (max flow 2.75 gpm)
Dinning tables are set without table clothes

Land Conservation

Rancho Makena protects 15 acres of land, which represents 25% of their property. Hiking is the only activity that takes place on this land.

Rancho Makena supports associations dedicated to at risk children and victims of domestic assault.

Additional Sustainability Steps

Rancho Makena runs an organic farm that produces 25% of the hotels food. The cabins at Rancho Makena were built with reforested wood and from trees that fell naturally. Tables, chairs, beds, and rocking chairs were all made with recycled wood.
