"very friendly staff. Went out of the way for make us custom breakfast and to provide warm clothes (jackets, sweaters) so we could enjoy a horseback riding trip. The cowboy was very accommodating on the horseback tour, including running the horses to give the kids the thrills they wanted."

Rancho Makena
In the small square of Monteverde, visitors will find a newly built bat museum, the women's cooperative called "CASEM' and a couple of cafes. Not too far from there is the beautiful Children's Eternal Rainforest, great for day hiking as well as doing a night walk with a knowledgeable guide. Also worth seeing is the Santa Elena Reserve, the Orchid Garden, the insect museums and the Frog Pond.
Rancho Makena is a comfortable, family run establishment surrounded by lush forest and located close to the entrance of the enchanted Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. Guests will find simple, clean and comfortable rooms constructed of wood, and with views of the forest and the valley below. A wonderful breakfast is included in the room price. Lunch and dinner is served upon request.

"The breakfast was great and the views are fabulous! Wasn't quite what I was expecting and was a little further out of town than I had realized, so definitely recommend having a car if you stay here, but the owners are great and lovely to talk to!"
