Low-watt fluorescent bulbs are installed in all areas of the hotel
Outdoor property lighting is turned off at 10 PM except in areas where it is needed for security
Water Conservation
Notices in the room say to put towels on the floor if you want new ones, and the sheets are washed every two days unless requested otherwise
Recycling Program
Hotel Mono Azul recycles paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, and compost material. All staff know that it is mandatory to put recycling items in the correct bins, and the hotel also allows the community to bring their recycling for pick up.
Waste/ Toxicity Reduction
Left over soap and toilet paper from the rooms is donated to the local schools, homeless shelter, and Manuel Antonio National Park
Only durable and reusable drinking cups are provided
Shampoos, conditioners, and lotions are placed in re-usable containers and refilled
Biodegradable products are used to help treat sewage
The laundry detergent and disinfectants are biodegradable, and other non-toxic cleaning agents are used whenever possible
Community Programs/Charity
Hotel Mono Azul makes daily donations to Kids Saving the Rainforest, a non-profit organization working to support environmental education, conservation, and protection of the endangered Titi monkey. Other hotel donations are made to indigenous, impoverished, and women's groups, as well as to wildlife funds. Various groups have worked with the hotel staff on environment education.
