Venado Caves Tour
The ancient Venado Caves are a geological marvel, shaped by tectonic shifting and an underground river.

|
The Venado Caverns, a 2,700 meter stretch of limestone caves replete with stalactite and stalagmite formations, are ideal for a day-trip from nearby Arenal. The caverns, believed to be between 15 and 20 million years old, were formed by underground streams which still run through the caves.
During the guided tour of the caverns, you may see bats, monochrome frogs, fish and marine fossils, many of which are endemic to the area.
What to Bring
Closed toe shoes or river sandals. A change of clothes (you will get wet). No FLIP FLOPS.
What this Tour Includes
Transportation to and from your Arenal area hotel, safety equipment, hiking gear, water

"The tour was lots of fun. Our tour guide was fantastic. I learned a lot about Costa Rica from him during the transport."

"I enjoyed the tour, but the only thing that I would say is that the cave is narrow and they should be in fairly good shape to be able to climb and maneuver through the cave. A large individual would not be able to go into the cave, and should consider this before booking."

"Edgar our guide picked us up at our hotel and we drove the 40 or so mins out to the caves, on the way he was a wealth of information and answered all our many questions with great authority and enthusiasm. The three of us were the only people at the caves so it was a very private tour. Edgar provided us with a hard hat, mask and torch (flashlight) each and off we went into the depths of darkness the caves provide. During the next hour or so,we wriggled through a hole which we never thought we would get through, aptly named the "Birth canal" scaled walls, crawled through tiny tunnels half filled with water, got soaking wet and muddy, it was absolutly BRILLIANT!"

"Loved our guide, Pedro Flores Suarez. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The caves were amazing! Although this is a tour for the fit--thankfully we both were. "
