El Silencio del Campo Hotel Sustainability

Energy Conservation
Low-watt light bulbs are used for outdoor property lighting
Motion sensors and timers are installed in some outdoor areas and on the spa's water pump

Water Conservation

Tables are set without table clothes for breakfast

Land Conservation
Silencio del Campo protects 6 acres of land, compromising 10% of its property. The trees in this area are all protected, and the hotel is in the process of reforesting the banks of a creek that runs through the property.

Recycling Program
Silencio del Campo’s recycling program includes collection of paper, aluminum, plastic, glass, and organic waste. Collection bins are located in the kitchen and parking lots. Kitchen oils are also collected and given to associations that recycle it.

Waste / Toxicity Reduction
Wastewater is treated with Efficient Microorganisms (EM)
Biodegradable bags are used

Community Programs / Charity
Silencio del Campo makes occasional donations of equipment or financial support to the Red Cross, community associations, and local schools.

Additional Sustainability Steps
Silencio del Campo currently grows platanos and tilapia. The hotel has future plans to grow hydroponic chile, cilantro, cucumber, celery, lettuce, and tomato. Organic fertilizer is produced through the Bocachico system (Em, Semolina rice, and molasses). Organic fertilizer and fungicides are used in 90% of areas of the hotel's green areas (gardens, ornamental trees, fruit trees and food for animals). Weeding is done manually without chemicals.
