Laundry is air-dried; heavy linens are pre-dried in the driers
Property lighting is kept low in order to better view the volcano at night

Water Conservation

Information in the rooms encourages guests to re-use linens and towels
Low-flow toilets in all bathrooms (max of 1.6 gallons/flush)
Table clothes are used only at dinner
Most rooms have a showerhead that conserves water

Land Conservation
The Arenal Observatory Lodge property includes 100 hectares of forested land. Additionally, it has 150 hectares of open and treed pasture land. Together, this land represents approximately 80% of the hotel property.

Recycling Program
Arenal Observatory Lodge collects glass, plastic, aluminum, and organic compost throughout the hotel property and in the kitchen. Garbage bins are also sorted for these materials.

Waste/ Toxicity Reduction

Only durable and reusable drinking cups are provided
Shampoos, conditioners, and lotions are placed in re-usable containers and refilled
100% biodegradable soap (laundry detergent, dish soap, and hand/body soap)

The Lodge makes donations to the terminally ill, local school, church, and disaster aid
