My name is Joel Burgess (Left) I am originally from Eugene, Oregon but have been living in Costa Rica since I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2006 with a degree in Spanish. Upon the eve of graduation I decided that I wanted to live in a Spanish speaking country. After some research, I discovered that Costa Rica would be one of the best places on the planet to try and learn, work and practice my Spanish.
In order to understand and experience the well known biodiversity, I ventured out by any means necessary. Whether it is by horseback, chicken bus, or hitch hiking, I love exploring Costa Rica coast to coast. The relaxed atmosphere and culture here is one of the best in the world and next to impossible to leave. I really enjoy contributing to the website and aiding people who are interested in visiting.
I plan on returning to school one day, but until then, you can find me working in tourism in Costa Rica.
I have experienced Costa Rica from the wonderful inconvenience of the chicken bus and budget hostel to the seamless ease of a chartered minibus and the opulence of the country's word-class resorts. Costa Rica is everything you could want in a destination and suits travelers of all walks of life.
