Lake Arenal to Lake Venado

The horseback riding adventure will begin with an early departure of 8 am from La Fortuna and will cover about 22.4 miles.

This is a fantastic excursion for the intermediate rider, as the trails are mostly dirt and gravel. You will be taken around the picturesque Lake Arenal, affording views of wildlife and stunning natural scenery. At one point in the ride, the group will head inland to the north, crossing a ridge which will allow for fantastic views of several volcanoes and the lake. You&ll then continue downhill for a while until reaching the village of El Venado. Once there, the group will have lunch and have the option of touring the Venado Caves, for an additional charge.

Altitude gain: 580 m/1,900 ft
Terrain: 30% paved and 70% dirt and gravel country roads near Lake Arenal
Difficulty: intermediate, one long 3km climb and several long downhill stretches
Departure: 8 am from La Fortuna
Return: 3 pm
Includes: picnic stop and lunch in a restaurant
