Your journey will begin when you are picked up from your hotel in a minivan and whisked away to the beautiful Arenal Lake, where you will be met by a comfortable boat ready to make the 30 minute trip across the lake, to the lakeside town of Castillo. From Castillo, you will begin your 2 1/2 hour Horseback ride along the lake.
The horseback portion of your journey will begin on the scenic shore of Lake Arenal, starting at the Castillo trail on the Cano Negro River and continuing to the bridge at Rio Chiquito. The trail provides views of the volcano, surrounding farmland and tropical jungle as well as the chance to see lake-shore birds and wildlife. It is suitable for inexperienced riders and can usually be navigated safely, even in rainy season. Your horseback ride includes a 30 minute picnic lunch stop.
The horse portion of the trip ends in Rio Chiquito where you will be united with your luggage and a mini-bus that will bring you to your hotel in Monteverde. The drive from Rio Chiquito to Monteverde is about 1 1/2 hours.
